My name is Alex Huston and I am passionate about caring for and encouraging women and new families in their parenting journey. I am a Postpartum Doula. I specialize in breastfeeding, newborn care, and Breath Control Therapy. With all my skills combined, I can help families have a more comfortable and knowledgeable start in the early developmental stages of their new baby.
As a Breath Control Therapist, I work with people to restore the traditional breath. Breathing is the foundation of mental and physical health. With this work, we can make the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health of our communities better, stronger, and more resilient.
Breath Control Therapy has changed my family's life and I am looking forward to helping many more.
I chose to become a Lactation Specialist to better care for mothers and babies in this sacred time. I want to help the medical system value the importance of the mother-baby time and the first few hours of life. Supporting mothers start to breastfeeding gently and with the knowledge to create the best future for all families and communities.
I am a proud descendant of the Scheuerman family, part of the Duwamish People from the traditional Coast Salish land in Seattle WA. I feel becoming a professional Postpartum Doula felt like a calling more than a choice. After completing my training as a doula I started adding more valuable tools such as Breath Control Therapy and Lactation Support, to help families in a unique, specialized, and personal way.
I am based on the traditional land of Snuneymuxw First Nation People (aka Nanaimo) on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia and I look forward to meeting you and your new family.
